Mud

Silence reigns in my brain
and words are no longer
on the forefront,
but instead buried deep,
so deep,
that it takes a dredging
to pull them out,
out of the mud.
When was it
that my head
became full of mud?
How can I
clean out the dirt,
leaving clear water–
beautiful, clear water,
for light things, such as words,
to float up to the top?
